Dermatology Partners to Provide Free Skin Cancer Screenings to The Baltimore Station’s Homeless Veterans

November 7 Screenings Done in Honor of Veterans Day and National Veterans and Military Families Month

Baltimore, MD (10/29/25) – In honor of Veterans Day and National Veterans and Military Families Month in November, Dermatology Partners – the Mid-Atlantic’s premier privately owned, physician-led dermatology group – is proud that its board-certified dermatologists will volunteer to provide free skin cancer screenings to the veterans residing at The Baltimore Station.

Dr. Kate Viola will conduct the exams at The Baltimore Station’s facility at 140 W. West Street in Baltimore on November 7 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of annual skin cancer screenings, especially with underserved populations.

While one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70, veterans are up to 25% more likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer than the general population due to increased sun exposure during military service, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Early detection is critical — when melanoma is identified at an early stage, the five-year survival rate exceeds 99%.

“As a healthcare practice, we believe that being a good corporate citizen means actively participating in the communities where we operate, particularly when it comes to caring for veterans who have put their lives on the line for all of us,” says Andrew Kay, Executive Vice President, Growth at Dermatology Partners. “We’re grateful for this opportunity and proud to partner with The Baltimore Station for a second time this year to honor our members of the military this Veterans Day.”

“We are incredibly appreciative to Dermatology Partners for their ongoing support, and especially Dr.Viola for her care and expertise,” said Kim Callari, Executive Director of The Baltimore Station. “ Their commitment to our mission of helping veterans and sincerely caring about their health and wellbeing is truly inspiring and will make a real difference in their lives.”

Dermatology Partners will also provide lunch to the residents and leave gift bags containing skin care products. The Baltimore Station is a nonprofit organization that provides residential treatment programming and transitional housing to veterans who are experiencing homelessness and have substance use disorder. The Baltimore Station helps them break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient.

Dr. Viola leads Dermatology Partners’ Sparks practice. With offices in Sparks, Owings Mills, and Westminster, Dermatology Partners offers a full spectrum of services for the detection and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair, and nails, and specializes in advanced treatments for skin cancer, including Mohs surgery and Dermoscopy.
