Mark Twain once wrote, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear.”These words reflect the spirit of all who have worn the uniform in service to our country. On this Veteran’s Day, Dermatology Partners proudly honors one of our own—Dr. Stanton Lebouitz—for his dedicated service during the Vietnam War.
Before answering the call to serve, Dr. Lebouitz pursued his education at Franklin & Marshall College and later at Hahnemann University College of Medicine. Along with three close friends,
He made the courageous decision to join the U.S. Army—combining his commitment to medicine with a deep sense of duty to his country.
During his military service, Dr. Lebouitz was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he served as Chief of Preventive Medicine. There, he treated fellow soldiers—many of whom were returning from combat zones—with illnesses rarely seen in the United States, including malaria, dengue fever, parasitic infections, and more. He was also among the first physicians to treat patients suffering from exposure to Agent Orange.
Reflecting on his time in the Army, Dr. Lebouitz described the experience as “intense,” noting, “I had the opportunity to treat soldiers who fought for our country while gaining extremely advanced hands-on training that continues to benefit my patients today.”
Dr. Lebouitz’s dedication to service is part of a proud family tradition. Both of his uncles served in World War II, further instilling in him the values of sacrifice, honor, and patriotism.
We are privileged to work alongside Dr. Lebouitz and grateful for the path he has walked—not only as a physician, but as a veteran who answered his nation’s call with bravery and compassion.
Thank you, Dr. Lebouitz, for your service and your continued commitment to healing.
