Bharath Balu, PhD, MD, FAAD, is a highly accomplished Dermatologist joining Dermatology Partners with extensive training in Dermatology, Medical Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Balu completed his medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University and a residency in Internal Medicine at Tower Health Reading Hospital. He further specialized with a Dermatology residency and a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (MSD) at Geisinger Health. His educational background also includes a PhD in Infectious Diseases from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology, reflecting his strong foundation in both clinical and research sciences.
Dr. Balu has received numerous honors, including serving as chief resident during his dermatology training and being selected for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. With over two decades of research experience, Dr. Balu has co-authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, focusing on topics ranging from genetic tools for malaria research to dermatologic conditions like VEXAS syndrome and pyoderma gangrenosum. His academic achievements are complemented by a U.S. patent for a genetic tool used in malaria research, showcasing his innovative scientific contributions.
Dr. Balu is an active member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American College of Mohs Surgery, and the International Society of Dermatology, where he contributes to dialogues and initiatives aimed at improving dermatologic care.
Dr. Balu and his wife chose to settle in the Chambersburg area, her hometown, to raise their family and be part of a welcoming community that reflects their values. In his free time, Dr. Balu enjoys creating meaningful memories with his wife and children, whether it’s through family outings, exploring new cuisines, or spending time outdoors. He also remains actively engaged in advancements in dermatologic surgery and oncology, reflecting his ongoing dedication to his field and his patients.
